Filipina chosen to lead San Francisco’s consular community
SAN FRANCISCO — Mariza Bensurto, wife of Consul General Henry S. Bensurto Jr. was unanimously elected as the incoming president of the League of San Francisco Consular Corps. Elections took place at the Official Residence of the Indian Consul General on Tuesday, June 6.
The League of the San Francisco Consular Corps (LSFCC) is a non-profit, apolitical, non-partisan organization founded in 1989.
Formerly the Ladies of the San Francisco Consular Corps, it was re-named League of San Francisco Consular Corps in 2012. The organization is composed of spouses and partners of members of the San Francisco Consular Corps, as well as retired diplomats.
Bensurto will assume her duties as President in September 2017. In her remarks, she said that she will continue the previous administration’s projects and focus on the elderly and children in outreach activities.
Members of the League took the opportunity to say goodbye to consular corps members who are ending their tours-of-duty in San Francisco. Lunch was served amid talk of summer plans and next year’s League calendar.
Bensurto’s role as vice president of the league was the impetus for its drive to network and deepen rapport with colleagues in the consular corps. Because of the Philippines’ active involvement and support of LSFCC, the organization chose the Pilipino Senior Resource Center as one of the non-profit organizations that it supported in 2016.
