PH indigenous crafts shine at 5th Winternational in DC
WASHINGTON, D.C. — For the third year the Philippine Embassy participated in the 5th annual Winternational at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center on Dec. 7, joining 37 other foreign diplomatic missions.
The Embassy exhibited original handicrafts by the indigenous peoples of the Philippines and freshwater pearl jewelry fashioned with unique Filipino artistry.
Among the featured products at the Philippine Embassy booth, which carried the theme “Pearl of the Orient,” were hand-woven table runners, placemats and fabric baskets, and colorful scarves and ties that were crafted using age-old techniques.
The handmade crafts were sourced from Anthill Fabric Gallery, a social and cultural enterprise that works to preserve and promote Philippine weaving traditions by applying them into contemporary designs for everyday essentials.
The Embassy’s participation in the annual Winternational is a cultural and economic diplomacy project done in partnership with the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Washington, DC, Office of the Philippine Agriculture Attaché in the Americas, and Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA).
