Filipino chiropractor shot dead in Ontario clinic
SAN FRANCISCO – A Filipino chiropractor was shot and killed in his Burlington, Ontario, Canada clinic on Thursday, March 16, and the gunman who shot himself later died in a hospital.
, 50, was shot and killed at the scene, the Mejilla Chiropractic Clinic, by the husband of the clinic’s receptionist.
Halton Regional Police identified the gunman as David Williamson, 44. He died in hospital of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Williamson is married to Shawna Nickelo-Williamson, the doctor’s office assistant who recently posted on Facebook about her husband’s health issues, according to the Toronto Sun.
“Dr. Mejilla leaves behind five children and several patients,” read a police news release. “His family requests that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.”
Mejilla’s LinkedIn profile notes he graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1993.
The doctor was divorced and had a girlfriend, a longtime patient of the chiropractor said, adding Mejilla was a devout family man.
