Bianca Bustamante says Zandvoort setback made her stronger

As Formula 1 prepares to bid farewell to the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, Filipino racing star Bianca Bustamante is looking back at the circuit that became one of the most defining chapters of her young career.
In a personal message shared on social media, Bustamante revealed that Zandvoort brought back memories of a challenging race weekend two years prior, when changing weather conditions and an on-track crash left her questioning herself.
“Writing and reflecting about something that’s been with me for the past 2 years… With F1 racing in Zandvoort for the last time, I’ve been thinking about what this place means to me,” she wrote.

She recalled how the event tested her mentally as much as it did her driving ability. “Two years ago, I had one of my toughest F1 Academy race weekends there. Mixed conditions led to a difficult qualifying and a crash. But more than anything, it brought with it a doubt in myself.”
‘The hard days shape the driver you become’
Looking back, Bustamante believes the lessons from that difficult weekend proved more valuable than any trophy or race result.
“It’s funny looking back now, because I think that weekend gave me more than I knew at the time. The wins and the results show you what you can do, but the hard days shape the driver you become,” she shared.
Bustamante added that the setback continues to motivate her every time she competes. She said the experience pushed her to improve not only her physical preparation but also her mindset, helping her build greater confidence in herself.
“Now, I use that moment as motivation. I’ve become stronger, physically and mentally. I trust myself more, and I’m grateful for the version of me that kept going.”
As Zandvoort prepares to host Formula 1 for the final time, Bustamante said the circuit will always hold a special meaning in her career, not for any outcome she achieved but because of the growth it inspired.
Bustamante has emerged as one of the Philippines’ most recognizable names in international motorsport, carrying the country’s flag in global single-seater competition while inspiring aspiring racers through her resilience and determination.
