More than 27,000 packages of Lundberg Family Farms white jasmine rice distributed in 12 states, including California, are under recall because of potential contamination with foreign materials, according to the US Food and Drug Administration.

The FDA classified the recall as Class II, meaning the product could cause temporary health problems but is unlikely to cause serious harm.

The agency’s enforcement report lists 27,324 affected 2-pound packages, or 4,554 cases, of Lundberg Family Farms White Rice Jasmine. The recall remains in effect.

What consumers should check

According to the FDA, the recalled rice was distributed in California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin. There was no foreign distribution listed.

The recall is voluntary and was initiated by the firm, according to the FDA. The agency’s record identifies the recalling firm as Wehah Farms of Richvale, California, while the affected product is manufactured and distributed under the Lundberg Family Farms name.

Lundberg Family Farms told PEOPLE that the issue was limited to a single production run and that the affected rice had been removed from store shelves several months ago. The company said no illnesses or injuries associated with the recalled product had been reported.

Consumers who have Lundberg white jasmine rice in their pantry can check the UPC, lot number and best-before date to determine whether their package is included in the recall.
