With years of experience performing on some of the world’s biggest stages, Lea Salonga knows what makes a voice memorable.
For the Broadway icon, BTS member V possesses a vocal quality that immediately stands out. During her appearance on the K-ALL podcast, Salonga shared her thoughts on the vocal strengths of BTS members, revealing that V is the group’s vocalist whose voice catches her attention the most.

While discussing the members’ individual talents, Salonga first praised Jungkook for his remarkable vocal consistency, describing him as the “GOAT” among BTS vocalists because of his impressive pitch control and reliability since the group’s debut.
“I think Jungkook is the GOAT. He is… among the vocalists. I have spoken to other people that have worked with him ever since his debut. This one music director said – because I was remarking on how this kid’s pitch is just ridiculously unreal – he said, ‘He’s been that way.’ He’s always been that way since the very beginning. It’s like he swallowed a stack of CDs. He is consistently like that,” Salonga said.
V’s baritone voice, vocal growth
However, when asked which BTS member’s vocals are the most striking to her, Salonga pointed to V, highlighting his distinct vocal color and growth throughout the years.

“But I think, the one whose vocals are the most striking for me, I think it’s V. And I think I would say most improved over time. Because it isn’t just that he can hit the notes…it’s like the singing seems to have gotten easier for him overtime. I think especially now that he’s much more physically fit. It’s one of those things that I think even he is feeling like ‘This is so much easier for me now’,” she added.
For Salonga, what makes V’s voice remarkable is not just his technical ability, but the character behind it. She praised the BTS singer’s warm baritone tone, which gives his performances a soulful quality and allows him to connect emotionally with listeners.
She also noted how exciting it is to hear a vocalist with a naturally deeper register explore different ranges. V’s ability to move between his rich lower tones and higher notes, while maintaining emotion and control, is part of what makes his performances distinctive.
The Tony Award winner has previously expressed her admiration for BTS, with V being her personal favorite member or “bias” in the group.
