‘Silenced Nights’ makes PH history with TIFF Platform selection

Philippine cinema is adding another historic milestone to its growing list of international achievements as Law Fajardo’s upcoming feature “Silenced Nights” has been selected for the Platform Programme of the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
The selection makes it the first Filipino film to compete in the festival’s prestigious juried competition.
The announcement was shared by Quantum Films, which revealed that “Silenced Nights” will make its world premiere at TIFF while becoming the first Philippine entry to join the Platform Selection. Calling it an honor, the production company thanked the festival for the recognition.
Producer Joji Villanueva Alonso added that the film will compete against 11 other international titles that showcase exceptional directorial vision, innovation and auteur-driven storytelling for the $20,000 Platform Prize.
She also noted that, for non-English language films, recognition in the category serves as an Oscar-qualifying pathway for Best International Feature Film.
Directed by Fajardo and written by Troy Espiritu, “Silenced Nights” is a sociopolitical thriller set against the backdrop of extrajudicial killings in a Philippine urban community.
The story follows an ordinary laborer whose life is forever changed after witnessing the fatal shooting of a teenage boy, exploring how fear and violence can silence both individuals and entire communities.
The film stars Nico Antonio, with Lotlot de Leon, Ina Feleo and Tanya Gomez rounding out the cast.
Introduced in 2015, TIFF’s Platform Programme highlights films distinguished by strong directorial voices and bold storytelling.
This year’s edition features 12 films from across the globe, with “Silenced Nights” representing the Philippines in the competition for the very first time.
