Coming off the bench, Filipino American NBA rookie Dylan Harper delivered a breakout postseason performance as he helped power the San Antonio Spurs to a commanding 114–95 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 5, sealing the series.
In just 26 minutes of play, he finished with 17 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting from the field, while also contributing three steals on defense. His impact came at key moments when the Spurs needed pressure and quick scoring bursts to widen the gap.
What made the performance even more significant was its place in franchise history. Harper became the first Spurs rookie since Kawhi Leonard in 2012 to register at least 15 points and three steals in a playoff game.

That milestone underscores just how rare his two-way production is for a first-year player in a postseason environment, especially within a franchise known for disciplined defensive systems.
Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson opted to deploy Harper as a bench weapon rather than a starter.
The rookie responded with composure and aggression, consistently attacking lanes, converting efficiently and disrupting passing lanes on defense. His energy helped set the tone for San Antonio’s second unit, which ultimately outperformed Portland’s reserves.
