There are so many options to watch on TV nowadays, it can sometimes be hard to know the winners from the duds. That’s why we have done some of the work for you, and picked out some of the best TV series to watch in early 2019. Whether you like dramas, crime shows, or comedies, our picks will have you covered. Stay tuned for new seasons dropping in 2019! Start binge watching now so you’re all caught up!

Stranger Things

Stranger Things

One of the best current TV series to binge watch has got to be “Stranger Things.” With season 3 confirmed to drop in summer 2019, it’s time to either start rewatching the first two seasons, or for all you “Stranger Things” first-timers, it’s time to finally see what all the fuss is about. For anyone who grew up in the 80s, “Stranger Things” will hit you right in the nostalgia feels. Channeling the horror film boom that happened in that decade, this show follows a group of school kids who are desperately searching for their friend who disappeared in mysterious circumstances. Things take a turn for the supernatural, and the whole town is plunged into a mystery so deep, sometimes I’m not sure even the writers know where they are taking this. Binging is really the only way to watch “Stranger Things” – the end of each episode is a bigger cliffhanger than the last, and this show has the potential to keep you up until the wee hours of the morning, just clicking “next” on your Netflix queue. Don’t make any plans while in the middle of a season of “Stranger Things” – you’ll only end up canceling those plans in favor of a night in with Eleven and the gang.

Ozark

Ozark

Another series that is just so hard to put down is “Ozark.” Moody and atmospheric, Ozark follows what appears to be the average all-American family, as they desperately try to escape from their father’s illicit past. Obviously that past catches up to them – and quick – so the tense series chronicles the dark decisions made to keep the family alive. Out of character in a non-comedic series, Jason Bateman is devious and calculating in the role of the father. “Ozark” is binge-worthy because huge revelations are being made every episode. The plot is filled with twist and turns and this is definitely one of those shows that you will want to go back and rewatch, just to make sure you really understood.

There are two seasons of “Ozark” on Netflix. Season 3 is due in 2019.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Now for something more lighthearted, “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” is so worth a binge watch. A comedy with dark origins, this show follows Kimmy Schmidt as she adjusts to life outside the doomsday cult she had been a part of for the past 15 years. Totally shut away from society, Kimmy and three other women lived in an underground bunker, until they were freed. Now, she lives a life without rules and walls and hijinks obviously follow. Despite her past, she is endearingly optimistic and trusting, and nothing gets her down. It’s a sweet TV series to watch, and is surely a mood brightener.

There are four seasons of “The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” on Netflix, with more season 4 episodes dropping in 2019.

The Haunting of Hill House

he Haunting of Hill House

Back in the spooky realm, “The Haunting of Hill House” is a series to binge because there are so many little details in this mysterious show that you’re afraid you may forget something important if you even take a break for the night. While just one season-long, this show is able to resolve its story nicely within 10 episodes, but you’ll still be asking yourself a lot of questions after those final credits start to roll. “The Haunting” follows the story of the Crain children, who had a less than ideal upbringing in Hill House, a rambling mansion that their parents were renovating. The mansion has a mind of its own, and a supernatural force has followed the family long after they left Hill House. Not for the faint of heart, “The Haunting” has plenty of jumps and scares while simultaneously unraveling a complicated plot. The show starts out a little slow, gradually peeling back the layers into just what happened one fateful night at the Hill House. Stick with it – the show will leave you with a LOT of questions, but all will be revealed in the final episode. Leave the lights on after binge watching this one!

There is one season of “The Haunting of Hill House” on Netflix.

Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul

For fans of “Breaking Bad,” and we know there are a lot of you, “Better Call Saul” is a no-brainer TV series to binge watch. “Better Call Saul” is a prequel to the smash hit “Breaking Bad,” and follows con-man turned lawyer Jimmy McGill years before he ever became Saul Goodman, the assumed name of Walter White’s infamous lawyer. Jimmy struggles at the beginning of the series to distinguish himself as a better lawyer than he was a con man, but is constantly overshadowed by his older brother. When Jimmy starts to rely on his crooked past, he begins making his name working with Albuquerque’s small-time criminals and drug lords. Jimmy is a likable character, while sometimes hapless, and this series gives a lot of insight to the “Breaking Bad” empire.

There are four seasons of “Better Call Saul” available on Netflix and Amazon Prime. A fifth season is underway, with a release date to be announced.

These were just a few of our recent favorite TV series to binge watch! There is something for everyone in this list, but let us know your favorites! In the meantime, what are you waiting for? Get binge watching!
