One of their initiatives for Women’s Month, the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., recently hosted a special Saturday service for women.
The event was part of efforts to make essential government services more accessible to women who are not able to avail of the services on regular weekdays.
By the end of the day, the Embassy reported that their consular team had ”processed 34 passport applications, 30 dual citizenship petitions, 25 overseas voter registrations, 30 notarizations and 4 civil registry documents.”
Consul Barbie Rosales briefed the 30 dual citizens on the benefits of Philippine citizenship. She also spoke about important services relevant to women, such as reporting their marriages and births.
During their March 15 oath-taking ceremony, Deputy Chief of Mission Felipe Cariño III emphasized the Philippine government’s ”strong commitment to advancing the rights of women.”
He added that one of the concrete ways to support women is to ensure “they can conveniently obtain passports, dual citizenship and other consular services.”
The Embassy said the special Saturday service part of their broader commitment to gender inclusivity and women’s empowerment.
