Filipinos eyeing US grad studies invited to apply for Fulbright program

Filipino students planning to take the next step in their academic journey overseas now have a new opportunity on the horizon as Fulbright Philippines officially opened applications for their 2027–2028 Fulbright Foreign Student Program.

The scholarship program is inviting qualified Filipinos to apply for graduate-level studies in the United States. The program covers master’s degrees, doctoral degrees and non-degree doctoral dissertation research. Applications are open until April 30, 2026.

According to Fulbright Philippines, the program is designed to support Filipinos who demonstrate strong academic merit, leadership potential and a commitment to contributing to national development after their studies.

Scholarship package

Successful applicants will receive comprehensive financial support. Grants cover a maximum of one academic year for non-degree programs, one to two years for master’s degrees and up to two years for doctoral studies.

The scholarship package includes round-trip international airfare, a monthly living allowance, tuition and school fees, book and supplies allowance, as well as health and accident insurance during the period of study.

Academic pathways

The program offers a wide range of academic pathways grouped into three main categories. Under the Study of the United States track, scholars may focus on American culture, society and institutions through disciplines such as government, education, arts and humanities, law, economics, literature, history, or American Studies and related social sciences.

For those inclined toward broader global concerns, the Global Issues category includes fields such as environmental studies, human rights, governance, peace and conflict studies, international relations, international economics and business, international law, public health and selected STEM fields. 

Meanwhile, Open Grants allow applicants to pursue fields not covered by the first two categories, with exclusions that include medicine, nursing, physical and occupational therapy, clinical psychology, medical technology and accountancy.

Information sessions

To guide interested applicants, Fulbright Philippines will hold a series of information sessions throughout early 2026. These include an in-person session on Jan. 24 at 10:00 a.m., followed by online sessions via Zoom on Feb. 12 at 7:00 p.m., March 14 at 10:00 a.m. and April 11 at 10:00 a.m.

Aspiring scholars are encouraged to attend these sessions to gain deeper insights into the application process and program expectations. More details about eligibility, requirements and the application process are available on their website.
