SAN DIEGO, California – A 59-year-old Filipino woman was hit by a car and killed while walking across a pedestrian lane a Mira Mesa street with her husband Thursday morning, Feb. 16.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office identified her as Lilian Sta Romana Ramos. Paramedics and the Medical Examiner’s office pronounced her dead at the scene from blunt force trauma.
Her 64-year-old husband was also hit by the eastbound Honda sedan that ran a red light while the couple was in the crosswalk at the intersection of Mira Mesa Boulevard and Marbury Avenue shortly after 6 a.m.
Her husband suffered serious head injuries and a broken femur and was taken to a hospital.
The 26-year-old driver remained at the scene, a San Diego police spokesman said.
Family members told NBC San Diego News that Ramos worked for Flagship Cruises and her husband worked for San Diego State. They say the couple parked every day near the location where they were hit and took the bus to work.
