“Ikulong mga korap.”
This powerful phrase, meaning “Jail the corrupt,” was front and center on actor Manny Jacinto’s Instagram story as he showed solidarity with Filipinos protesting against corruption on Sept. 21.
The Filipino Canadian star, widely recognized for his roles in “The Good Place” and the recent “Freakier Friday,” shared images captured during the mass demonstrations that flooded Manila and other cities.
The protests, which drew tens of thousands of Filipinos, highlighted frustrations over allegations of corruption in flood control projects and broader calls for systemic reform.
By reposting photos from local photographers, Jacinto amplified voices from the streets to his global audience. One of the striking images he reshared featured a protester bearing the words “IKULONG MGA KORAP.”
Jacinto kept his caption minimal, letting the images and slogans speak for themselves. Still, his decision to spotlight the movement did not go unnoticed.
Many netizens praised him for leveraging his international platform, noting how more and more Filipino talents abroad are using their influence to bring visibility to pressing issues back home.
Other visuals he highlighted came from the “Baha sa Luneta” rally where placards carried by demonstrators read: “MAHIRAP MAGING MAHIRAP” (It’s hard to be poor), “LUMABAS NG TANGHALIAN, TUMUNGO SA LANSANGAN” (Step out at lunchtime, take to the streets), and “BAGUHIN ANG SISTEMA, LUMABAN, MAKIBAKA” (Change the system, fight, struggle).
The Sept. 21 demonstrations coincided with the anniversary of Martial Law’s declaration, adding historical weight to the gathering. For participants, it was not only a protest against present-day issues but also a continuation of a long fight for accountability and transparency in governance.
He’s not the only one showing support. Katseye’s Sophia Laforteza also sent a message for the Filipinos, and beauty queens also rocked the streets with their call for accountability and good governance.
