Filipino cinema continues to make an impact on the international stage in 2025 as “The Gospel of the Beast,” a gripping drama by acclaimed director Sheron Dayoc, is set to premiere in North America at the Siné Film Festival 2025 in Toronto.
The film, which stars Jansen Magpusao from “John Denver Trending,” has gained recognition after sold-out screenings at the Tokyo International Film Festival, and its arrival in Canada marks another milestone for Western Visayan cinema.
The story follows 15-year-old Mateo, who is thrust into a harrowing journey after accidentally killing a classmate. In his desperate escape, he finds himself in the company of Berto, a man he barely knows.
As they navigate the world together, a unique father-son bond forms – one shaped by survival, loss and the raw truths of life and death. Through Mateo’s eyes, the film explores the weight of consequence and the transformation that comes with facing one’s darkest fears.
As “The Gospel of the Beast” makes its way to the Siné Film Fest, it joins a lineup of films that celebrate the artistry and talent of Filipino filmmakers across the globe.
The festival, which runs from April 10 to 13 at Hotel X in Toronto, serves as a platform for Filipino creatives to showcase their work, connect with industry professionals and inspire future collaborations.
Sheron Dayoc – the film’s director, co-writer and producer – will be attending the screening and will take part in an exclusive Q&A session with the audience. This gives festival-goers a unique opportunity to gain insights into the creative process behind the film and engage in discussions about its themes and cinematic approach.
In addition to film screenings, the Siné Film Fest will feature panel talks, networking events and industry discussions – all aimed at amplifying the presence and impact of Filipino filmmakers in the global scene.
