Fil-Ams poised to win several races in California

SAN FRANCISCO – Filipino Americans are headed for victory in several races in California.
As of Thursday morning, former West Sacramento Mayor Christopher Cabaldon was leading rival Republican Thom Bogue 61 percent to 39 percent in the District 3 state Senate race.
District 3 includes all of Napa and Solano counties, along with parts of Yolo, Sonoma, Sacramento and Contra Costa counties.
Cabaldon will be the first Filipino American to serve in the state Senate.
In the race for the state Assembly’s 52nd district, Jessica Caloza was leading opponent Franky Carillo 67.1 percent to 32.9 percent.
Caloza is set to become the first Filipina in the California Assembly.

In Daly City, Mayor Juslyn Manalo appeared to have the lead with 50 percent of the votes, followed by Daly City Councilmember Glenn Sylvester with 38 percent.

In San Diego, Mayor Todd Gloria held 55.7 percent share of the vote compared to challenger Larry Turner’s 44.2 percent.

In South San Francisco City Council’s District 2, Mark Nagales was leading fellow Fil-Am Vivian Ramos with 63 percent to 37 percent.

In the race for Dublin City Council, Fil-Am candidate for District 3 John Morada was leading rival Razi Hasni with 54 percent to 46 percent.

In the contentious race for Los Angeles City Council’s 14th District, Ysabel Jurado was headed for victory with 55.4 percent of the vote while incumbent Kevin de León stood at 44.6 percent.

In the race for San Francisco County Supervisor for District 1, Marjan Philhour was narrowly leading incumbent Connie Chan with 50.1 percent to 49.9 percent as of Thursday morning.
