Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined Filipino Canadians at the annual “Taste of Manila” festival in Toronto on Aug. 17, shaking hands and posing for photos with participants – including former Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

“Mabuhay! Great to be back at the Taste of Manila in Toronto. The Filipino community in Canada is nearly 1 million strong, and our country is richer, and more vibrant for it,” Trudeau wrote in his post on X, formerly Twitter.

Moreno was visiting Canada as part of Sparkle GMA Artist Center’s “Sparkle World Tour.”

Participants were treated to a wide array of Filipino dishes – from savory favorites like adobo and lechon to sweet treats like halo-halo and bibingka.

This year’s event featured GMA artists Alden Richards, comedian Boobay and Moreno, who entertained audiences on August 17 and 18.

On Aug. 6, Trudeau also made a surprise appearance at the Folklorama festival at the Pearl of the Orient Philippine Pavilion in Winnipeg.

Trudeau has been making appearances at community events amid questions whether he can continue to lead his party in the face of a country hungry for change. Recent polls show his minority government is trailing the Opposition Conservatives.

Trudeau’s Liberal party has suffered a major upset in a special election for a Toronto district it has held for three decades, raising doubts about Trudeau’s leadership ahead of next year’s general election.
