Fil-Am actors bring magic to Disney’s ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’
From Prince Charming to King Charming, two Filipino Americans are making the magic happen in the newly released, “Disney’s Descendants: The Rise of Red.”
Paolo Montalban, who captured hearts as Prince Charming in the 1997 television adaptation of Cinderella, returns to the fairytale world as King Charming in the new Disney installment.
Expressing his excitement on Instagram when it was officially announced last year, Montalban wrote, “I wish I could express how thrilled I am to play King Charming and reunite with my fairytale princess [Brandy] in the newest installment of Disney’s Descendants franchise. I’m extremely excited for all the Cinderella fans out there who are curious about what happens AFTER ‘happily ever after.’”

Montalban also took a moment to thank those who supported his return: “There are so many people who made this all possible. You know who you are, and a gratitude post is soon to follow. But for now, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for granting me this wish I didn’t even know I had.”
Recently, Montalban has been posting snaps on his Instagram and behind the scenes moments while on set.
“#BTS at Cinderellasburg. The ‘King Charming seeing Chloe and Cinderella off to boarding school’ scene was the first time I met our esteemed director [Jennifer Phang] and the splendid, the wonderful [Malia Baker],” he captioned in one of his posts.

“After one rehearsal together with @brandy, I knew I was in good company,” he added. “And when Malia bounded down the palace steps as Chloe in her glass combat boots – there was no acting required. I was just a father proud of his girl.”
Meanwhile, the role of Prince Charming in the film is played by 23-year-old Fil-Am actor Tristan Padil, who expressed his excitement with fans upon the announcement: “Yooo, Charmed to meet you! Come show some love to the new kids on the block, go Owls baby!!”
“Descendants: The Rise of Red” has already made waves, breaking a Disney Channel Original Movie record with 6.7 million views in its first three days on Disney+.
The film is now streaming, continuing the magical legacy of the Descendants franchise.
