Shaina Magdayao among jury members at New York Asian Film Fest
After her successful portrayal in the Netflix and Kapamilya series “Can’t Buy Me Love,” Filipina actress Shaina Magdayao is now back in primetime with Kyle Echarri and Joel Torre in “Pamilya Sagrado.”
Moreover, this time, she’s also stepping onto the international stage, not with a film or series, but as a jury member.
The multi-awarded actress has been chosen to represent the Philippines as a jury member in the Uncaged Competition at the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF).
Known for celebrating Asian cinema, the NYAFF will see Magdayao joining an esteemed panel that includes Nonkul Chanon Santinatornkul, Thai star of “Bad Genius,” Tony Bui, the Vietnamese-American director of “Three Seasons,” Shao-yi Chen, producer at Taiwan’s Screenworks Asia, Felix Tsang, sales and acquisitions manager at Hong Kong’s Golden Scene, and Aliza Ma, head of programming at the Criterion Channel.
The Uncaged Competition at NYAFF focuses on showcasing groundbreaking films from emerging Asian directors, highlighting bold and innovative works that push the boundaries of storytelling and filmmaking.
This isn’t the first time Magdayao will attend an international film festival this year, as she also joined Cannes Director’s Fortnight for the premiere of “Walay Balay” in May and graced the Busan Film Festival with “Essential Truths of the Lake” last year.
