Miss Universe PH candidate secures top 16 finish in Miss California USA
They say, you are never denied, only redirected. This sentiment rings true for the former Miss Universe Philippines 2024 candidate who pursued her pageant dreams twice within the span of a month.
Filipino American beauty Janet “Jet” Hammond, who represented the Filipino community of Southern California in MUPH, recently competed in Miss California USA and finished as one of the top 16 during the coronation night on June 23.
In an Instagram post, Hammond, who represented Arcadia, shared her journey: “2 years ago, I can’t even begin to imagine competing in pageants due to status restrictions.”

It’s a known fact that the Fil-Am actress and entrepreneur is a married woman and she hopes to become the first married Miss Universe Philippines.
“Now, I am proud to say that I have competed in the Philippines and USA system both for the first time in a span of 1 month and 1 day (I’ll probably hold a world record for this. Or shall I say, a universe record rather),” she humorously added.
Hammond further expressed her gratitude, saying, “Thank you @misscausa @crowndivaproductions @kristenjbradford for giving us a fun weekend of learning and growth. Truly an honor to work with your organization. Everything was on point!! Grateful for all your support.”
One exceptional thing about Hammond’s participation in Miss California USA was that she did her own hair and makeup.
The 26-year-old beauty queen is the younger sister of Binibining Pilipinas – Intercontinental 2016 Jennifer Hammond, who is also the president of The Miss Philippines California. In the Miss Universe Philippines 2024 competition, she secured finalist spots in both the National Costume and Swimsuit Challenge categories.
However, this might not be Hammond’s final attempt at reaching her Miss Universe dreams, as she concluded, “Always remember, everyone’s journey and timeline is different. That’s it for 2024.”
The Fil-Am contestant isn’t the only one diving into another pageant shortly after MUPH. Christina Dela Cruz Chalk, representing the Filipino community in the United Kingdom and a semi-finalist in MUPH 2024, will compete in Miss Universe Great Britain 2024, where she has previously been the first runner-up twice. Additionally, Hawai’i’s Bianca Tapia and Cavite’s Dia Mate have transitioned to Miss World Philippines 2024, vying for one of its crowns.
The 2024 Miss California USA is Samantha Ramos of Santa Monica while the 2024 Miss Universe Philippines is Chelsea Manalo of Bulacan.
