NEW YORK – The Philippine Consulate General in New York is inviting the Filipino community in Northeastern United States to celebrate the 126th Philippine Independence Day at the inaugural “Pistahang Bayan 2024” in New Jersey on June 30.

The cultural festival at Lincoln Park in Jersey City will be “a day filled with cultural performances, delectable Filipino cuisine and exciting activities suitable for the entire family,” according to the event announcement from the Philippine Consulate General.

“Experience the heart and soul of Filipino culture! Celebrate Filipino talent at ‘Pistahang Bayan 2024.’ Don’t miss this spectacular showcase of Filipino artistry,” the announcement said.

“Come for the performances, stay for the food and festivities. Join us for a day of cultural pride and community connection.”

The community’s “brightest stars” will take the stage at the event featuring performances, from traditional folk dances to modern pop hits, organizers said.

On June 23, Philippine comedy concert queen Ai-Ai delas Alas headlined the Philippine American Friendship Community, Inc. (PAFCOM) parade and festival – also at Lincoln Park in Jersey City.

On June 20, the Bergen County Board of Commissioners and Bergen County’s Asian American Advisory Board led the Philippine Independence Day celebration and flag-raising ceremony at the County Administration building in Hackensack, New Jersey.

Earlier this month, the Camden County Board of Commissioners joined the Filipino Executive Council of Greater Philadelphia and community members to celebrate 126 years of Philippine independence.

“In keeping with the core values of America, we use this day to recognize the 126th anniversary of when the Philippine revolutionary government proclaimed its freedom,” Commissioner Jeffrey Nash said. “It is important that the Filipino community in Camden County stay in touch with their culture and celebrate their customs, and Philippine Independence Day gives (them) the opportunity to do just that.”
