Us the Duo reveals divorce but teases more music in 2024
The husband-and-wife folk music duo, Us the Duo, revealed that they have decided to part ways in their marriage.
But despite this significant personal change, Michael and his Filipino American wife Carissa Alvarado, assured fans that their musical journey will continue with new releases planned for 2024.
In a lengthy Instagram post, the artists penned a heartfelt message alongside a beach photo with their 5-year-old daughter, Xyla.
“Us The Duo was created back in 2012 as a place for us to share our music with the world,” they wrote, opening up about their decision to go their separate ways.
“In the meantime, we did want to let you know a bit about our personal lives. The two of us are no longer married, but we still have so much love for each other, and most importantly, for our daughter Xyla,” they continued.

Despite the end of their marital union, the duo affirmed their commitment to co-parenting, stating, “We’ve been living on our own separate journeys for quite some time now and although life looks a little bit different than before, we are both still creating and absolutely love being the best co-parents we can.”
They shared that Xyla has also transitioned “wonderfully” into this new normal and “is still her happy and joyful self.”
The couple, who formed Us the Duo in 2012 as a platform to share their music with the world, then expressed gratitude to their loyal fans for their unwavering support over the past 12 years, recounting instances where fans incorporated their songs into significant life moments like weddings or immortalized their lyrics with tattoos.
The announcement wasn’t devoid of hope as the former couple teased forthcoming projects in 2024, including “never-heard-before singles,” remixes of their beloved classics, the highly anticipated Top Hits medleys, and a Christmas release.
“Til then, we’ll see you right here on Instagram for our next release, coming VERY SOON,” the post further read.
The duo first rose to fame in 2013 with their covers on the now-defunct video app Vine, later transitioning into releasing original music under their moniker. They first tied the knot in 2012.
Despite the changes, their commitment to music remains unwavering, promising exciting times ahead for Us the Duo’s musical journey, not as husband and wife, but now as musical artists.
“Thank you for all your support over the past 12 years. We love you all so much,” they concluded.
