Fil-Canadian employment rates remain high in 2023, data reveals
When children are asked about notable Filipino traits, they often point to the admirable quality of hard work and diligence ingrained in Filipino culture. As the famous proverb goes, “kapag may tiyaga, may nilaga.”
Recent data from Statistics Canada reinforces this notion. The figures, released in January 2024, reveal an employment rate of 73.9 percent among Filipinos in December 2023, even peaking at 75.3 percent in August.
The numbers indicate that nearly three-quarters of the Filipino population in Canada are either employed or actively seeking employment, surpassing the national average of 62 percent.
This trend, however, is not confined to specific age groups, as Filipinos consistently lead in employment rates for workers aged 15 years and older and 55 years and older.
In June 2023, Statistics Canada also underscored the high labor force participation rates of Filipino Canadians—which was also above the national average of 65.4 percent.
These numbers affirm the impact Filipinos in Canada are making in the workforce. They embody the spirit of hard work, as Statistics Canada notes, “Filipino Canadians are among the hardest working people in Canada.”
