BrightFarms voluntarily recalls spinach, salad kits over Listeria concerns
In response to potential Listeria contamination, BrightFarms has initiated a voluntary recall of specific spinach and salad kit products available in seven states.
According to the official release, these states are Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Additionally, the company has voluntarily recalled a limited quantity of four salad kit products manufactured at its Selinsgrove, PA facility. As a precautionary measure, the distribution of spinach grown by Element Farms has been temporarily suspended.
Listeriosis, an infection caused by Listeria monocytogenes, presents significant health risks, particularly for vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. The bacteria, naturally occurring in the environment, can contaminate food at various stages from farm to table.
