Awards season is always filled with surprises—both the good and the chaotic.

From Chelsea Handler making a retort to Jo Koy’s Golden Globes performance at the recently concluded Critics’ Choice to Asians winning and making big strides for representation, we’ve seen them all through our screens.

Of course, this season isn’t complete without the Emmys, which happened on Jan. 15. Among the many surprises was Christina Applegate, who appeared to present the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

The Emmy Award-winning actress wowed the crowd with her attendance despite her health conditions. The audience, of course, delivered by giving the 52-year-old star the standing ovation she deserved.

Touched by the recognition industry peers gave her, Applegate was seen teary-eyed, overwhelmed by the support. “Thank you so much,” she said.

“Oh my god, you’re totally shaming me with disability by standing up,” she later quipped. “It’s fine… Body not by Ozempic.”

Jokingly, she retorted at the continuously clapping crowd, “We don’t have to applaud every time I do something.”

It can be remembered that in conversation with the Los Angeles Times, Applegate shared that her role as Jen Harding in the dark comedy “Dead to Me” might be her last acting role, as her battle with multiple sclerosis is adding more to the challenge.

The actress, who has been working in the industry since she was one, told the L.A. Times that she is considering working as a voice actor and behind the scenes to “make sure that my daughter’s fed and we’re homed.”

Another momentous moment that happened at the recent 75th Emmys is “Abbott Elementary” actress Quinta Bronson winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, making her the second Black woman to win the category after Isabel Sanford won 30 years ago for “The Jeffersons” in 1981.
