NBA coach Erik Spoelstra’s ex-wife fires back at haters over $120M contract
Former wife of NBA coach Erik Spoelstra, Nikki Sapp, is now in the spotlight as she claps back at online haters. Apparently, she’s laughing over the “fumble the bag” comments following the coach’s lucrative contract.
Known to many as “Coach Spo,” the 53-year-old Miami Heat coach just scored an eight-year $120 million deal contract extension. This makes him the second-highest-paid coach per season — trailing behind Gregg Popovich.
Meanwhile, this new deal drags former Miami Heat dancer and Spoelstra’s ex-wife Nikki Sapp to a crossfire of online trolling after the news of the colossal contract broke. Online trolls accused her of “fumbling the bag” — a jargon meaning making mistakes or poor decisions.

But Sapp’s not one to stay mum — she pirouetted through the negativity with clap backs on her critics. On her Instagram stories, she reflects on societal expectations on women, gesturing an encore of empathy in the online world.
“Lol. I’m going to address this comment NOT as it pertains to my personal life choices but as it relates to a general thought process that I believe a lot of people have and that a lot of people have harassed me with over the years,” stated Sapp.
As she faces the trolls head high, her stance reverberates — the harsh reality how many perceive that women can’t win whether they stand by a successful partner or part ways.
“Women can’t be genuinely in love with someone successful. No, they’re pretending and they’re in it for the money. And if a woman chooses to not be with a successful partner, apparently she’s an idiot,” wrote Sapp.

Timing on Erik Spoelstra’s new deal
Fil-Am Erik Spoelstra’s contract extension had the online critics raising questions. Is it an intentional after-divorce flex or just simply coincidence?
Her comments came almost two months after they inked their divorce. Now both committed to co-parenting, Sapp and Erik Spoelstra are on amicable note despite their separation.
“We have made the difficult yet amicable decision to jointly file to formally end our marriage,” stated the former couple in an interview with Miami Herald.
As for Erik Spoelstra who’s currently in his 16th season as Heat’s head coach, he had come a long way from being a video coordinator to coach Pat Riley’s successor in 2008.
