Nominations for 2024 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas now open

WASHINGTON – Nominations are now open for the 2024 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individuals and Organizations Overseas (PAFIOO), the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC has announced.

The nomination period will close on May 30, 2024.

The PAFIOO awards are conferred by the President of the Philippines every two years to honor and recognize individuals and organizations abroad who “contribute to Philippine development initiatives and promote the cause and interest of the Filipino diaspora overseas,” according to the Philippine Embassy.

Since 1991, a total of 541 awards have been given out by the Presidents of the Republic of the Philippines to individuals and organizations from 55 countries and territories.

The PAFIOO has four award categories:

  1. 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝗽𝘄𝗮 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗼 (𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗞𝗔𝗣𝗜𝗟) 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 – conferred on overseas Filipino individuals or organizations for their significant contributions to the development of a particular sector/local community in the Philippines.
  2. 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗮𝗴 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 – This award is conferred on overseas Filipino individuals or organizations for their significant contributions in the host country that have benefited and advanced the cause and interest of the Filipino diaspora/overseas Filipino community.
  3. 𝗣𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗼 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 – conferred on overseas Filipino individuals who, in exemplifying the talent and industry of the Filipino, have brought the country honor and recognition through excellence and distinction in the pursuit of their work or profession.
  4. 𝗞𝗮𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗯 𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 – conferred only for foreign individuals (natural-born) or foreign organizations for their significant contributions to Philippine development or a particular sector/local community in the country and for advancing the cause of the Filipino diaspora/overseas Filipino community.

Any individual or organization, whether Filipino or foreign, based in the areas within the jurisdiction of the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC may submit nominations for the awards on or before April 24, 2024.

The Philippine Embassy’s jurisdiction covers the states of Alabama, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia in the US, as well as Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guadaloupe, Guantanamo Bay, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Montserrat, Puerto Rico, St. Barthelemy, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Martin, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks & Caicos and U.S. Virgin Islands.
