Sleeping securely without worries of robbery is luxury. But if you can’t keep your peace with the growing crimes in large cities, moving to the safest small towns and cities in the US may be your next best move.

MoneyGeek’s survey crowns Northeast as the safest small city in the country. The study reveals that seven out of the top 10 safest small cities are nestled in the upper right region.

“Overall, small cities and towns have 48% lower crime costs than larger cities,” stated MoneyGeek.

The study focused on last year’s FBI crime statistics for towns and cities with populations of 30,000 – 100,000 residents. After surveying 1,010 communities, Monroe Township in New Jersey came out on top with its low violent crime and property crime rate.

More than just the Garden State

Unsurprisingly, clinching the second place is another area from New Jersey — Hillsborough Township with a crime cost per capita of just $40 while Monroe Township is just at $30 crime cost per capita.

Meanwhile, Wallingford, Connecticut joins the ensemble of the top 10 while other three cities from the Garden State made it to the top 15 — Manalapan, Westfield and Princeton.

Sharing the safety limelight making it on the top 10 list of safest small towns in the US are Santa Margarita, California, Wallingford, Connecticut, Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania and Shresbury, Massachusetts.

On the flip side of security and safety, the least safest towns are primarily in the South. Louisiana and Monroe topped the list though they’re the least safest cities in the US, they’re also the safest in their states.
