Food is a big part of Filipino family traditions. Passing recipes from generation to generation—kitchens bustling with different dishes—cooking really completes any gathering. However, with all the hustle and bustle going on that comes with the season, sometimes it is simply not possible to do this anymore. This is why restaurants that feel like home have a special place in people’s hearts, and among these is Amihan Grill and Bakeshop.

To make things even better, Amihan just opened their second location in Downtown Calgary on Dec. 14, making them the first Filipino restaurant to open their doors there.

While Amihan features delectables inspired by the streets of the Philippines, according to their website, they also boast their modern take on Filipino dishes like their longga burger, turon de coco, and other Filipino classics like the beef mami and pork sisig.

Apart from the savory, they have treats for those with a sweet tooth, too. Desserts also have an impact on Filipino tradition, and Amihan does not disappoint in that department either. According to the restaurant’s website, their breads and pastries are not just for solo eating, but for sharing with families, friends, and loved ones, too. From choco crinkles and sylvannas to Brazo de Mercedes and lengua de gato, each dessert on their menu is perfect as pasalubong or gifts during special occasions.

For Filipinos who can’t take the time to prepare their own feasts or be with their families back in the Philippines, it shouldn’t mean the celebration can no longer feel like home. Places like Amihan help bring the taste and warmth Calgary-based Filipinos yearn for, especially during the holidays.

Amihan Grill + Bakeshop’s newly opened branch is located at 1011 1 Street SW, Calgary AB and they are open from Monday-Sunday at 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
