A Filipino family tradition

Ian Kewks or Ian Rivero recalls eating halo-halo way back from the days he lived in the Philippines. Up to this day, his family continues to make eating and making the unique dessert a family bonding experience even in Canada.

“One of us [is] in charge of shaving ice, while the others are responsible for prepping the toppings and mix-ins,” he says.

He adds, “It’s always a fun get-together with family (especially in the summer) and then enjoying the labor of our combined efforts in the end.”

Making the halo-halo

Rivero shares that the key to halo-halo is to just “have fun with it.” For him, the beauty of halo-halo is that it is not complicated and you can eat it however you like—whether in a cup or bowl and with as many toppings as you want.

“Most importantly, mix the halo-halo until it becomes slushy-like– that’s the whole point of why it’s named the way it is!” the content creator emphasizes, even suggesting alternatives to some hard-to-find ingredients like canned and sweetened fruits, condensed milk, and pinipig.

Halo-halo has always been a Filipino favorite  no matter the occasion. While it’s usually devoured in hot weather, many still find themselves enjoying a glass even in cold or rainy seasons. Its popularity continues to rise through a global favorite game, further giving it the appreciation and recognition it has always deserved.

The Sims 4’s “For Rent” pack lets players live as a tenant or a property owner, and boasts new features, from managing properties to enjoying street carts’ food with neighbors.
