Directed by Nathan Silver, “Between the Temples” is described as an “anxious comedy” about a cantor who is locked in a crisis of faith and finds his world upside down when his grade school music teacher re-enters his life as his new adult bat mitzvah student. The film stars Jason Schwartzman and Carol Kane, with de Leon’s role yet to be revealed.

“Ghostlight” may give way to a showcase of de Leon’s dramatic acting chops as it riffs on “Romeo and Juliet.” Directed by Alex Thompson and “Saint Frances” writer Kelly O’Sullivan, it follows the story of a construction worker who joins a local theater’s “Romeo and Juliet” production where he ends up falling for his leading lady and feuding with her boyfriend—mirroring the drama onstage.

Will these films generate Oscar buzz and lead to another awards season campaign for de Leon? We’ll have to wait and see when Sundance 2024 runs from Jan. 18 to 28 in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah.
