Growing up in a karaoke-loving family makes us Filipinos good singers (well, most of us), and it’s not surprising that the great belters have found their way to fame just as how the former “The Voice of the Philippines” star is now set to make waves in the US.

After a decade-long musical journey, Deb Victa has a brand new comeback single, “American Boy.” Back in season one of “The Voice,” Victa sang this track as her blind audition piece.

Fast forward to today, she’s giving the classic track a fresh take. In her own words, “It’s originally by Estelle, but we decided to put my own spin on it to make it sound more modern and more me.”

Encouraging her to launch this new song is mentor and manager Garth Garcia, who’s also making his own mark with his latest track topping the iTunes chart.

DJ Mysterkeyz lent his magic touch to produce her music, while the vocal arrangements are credited to Purpose Driven Records.

“The Voice PH’s” magic

While Victa is now successful on her own, she still believes she owes it to Bamboo, the coach who turned his seat and got her on board team Kamp Kawayan.

“I believe there are no accidents, and I see now that becoming part of Team Bamboo was good for me at the time because he taught me to find my sound and artistry, which I had barely scratched the surface of,” Victa said.

Being “The Voice” star, doors opened for her—she performed at one of Bamboo’s concerts in Araneta Coliseum and scored regular spots in bars and lounges. After a year of living her dream in the Philippines, she packed her bags and continued her musical journey in the US.

Here’s where another adventure began for her. She shone at the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall and performed with the Filipino American Symphonic Orchestra, even headlining a few Fil-Am-produced shows.

Musical roots and inspirations

Music is deeply rooted in her family with her lolo, Augusto Victa, who once shared the screen with Chuck Norris in the ’80s classic “Missing in Action.” While her father, Val Victa has played Atty Fidel Dioquino in “Valiente.”

“American Boy” is now available on all platforms.
