Whether you’ve actually taken a page off his recipes or just been vibing with his brand of energy and humor since his mobile kitchen days, it can’t be denied that Newt Nguyen (or @milktpapi to some) has people’s TikTok For You Page in a chokehold.

Foodies in particular get to warp into the San Francisco-based content creator’s kitchen and get served with an interesting array of meals and desserts.

Craving chicken yakitori? Lobster rolls? Or even a tray of matcha brownies? The 25-year-old “parsley” guy can whip them up—and it only makes sense that culinary neophytes will treat his collection of videos as an unintimidating go-to. But good news—these pieces of knowledge are turning into something more tangible (spoiler alert: a book).

On Instagram, Nguyen revealed the birth of his debut cookbook aptly titled “Newt: A Cookbook for All.” It turns out that he’s been cooking up this “biggest project yet” for the past two years.

“Cooking is something that is very dear to my heart. It gave me purpose, helped me through tough times, but most importantly, allowed me to discover such a fulfilling career and meet all of you guys,” the Gen Z puts crying and heart emojis, then adding, “It also helped me drop out of school (hell yeah).”

The internet star also highlights this isn’t just any other cookbook for him, as it reflects who he is. “It’s one that represents me as a person—a Vietnamese American from the Bay Area. Here, you’ll find Vietnamese classics that my mom cooked for me throughout my childhood, recipes from my beloved hometown of San Jose, and of course, my most viral Tiktok cooking videos.”

The cover features Nguyen eating a pasta dish with chopsticks, with a fresh-looking color palette, capturing his fun, warm, and often chaotic online presence. Inside, readers will get to dive into 75 flavor-packed recipes that are “beginner-friendly and hugely satisfying,” as the Barnes & Noble website says.

The cookbook’s overview also shows recipe chapters like “Opening Acts” for starters and sides, “Put Down The Chopsticks” for no-utensils-needed picks like spam musubi, and “Missing Home,” which houses Vietnamese dishes that play a part in Nguyen’s life like pho and ca kho to. Of course, there’s also one especially for his first love a.k.a. chicken, called “Fried Chimken.”

Curious if anything Filipino made the cut? Well, there’s chicken adobo under “Me Hangry,” dedicated to “quick yet filling” dishes. It’s still a mystery if there’s another Filipino meal featured in the pages, though Nguyen did try preparing some popular staples, like kare-kare and his debatable-slash-memorable sinigang

Published by HarperCollins Publishers’ Harvest, “Newt: A Cookbook For All” will be available on Apr. 24, 2024, but it’s currently open for pre-orders.
