Meet the Fil-Am singer that had Gwen Stefani blocking on ‘The Voice’
If that four-chair turn for Ewa Beach’s 17-year-old Kaylee Shimizu got you wishing for a Hawaii-based Filipino-American winner for “The Voice” Season 24, there’s another contender that might have what it takes to turn that wish into reality.
Singer-songwriter and producer Jason Arcilla has a unique voice that may just bring him to the top.
Hailing from Pukalani in Maui, Hawaii, Arcilla surprised viewers during the Blind Auditions with his rendition of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.” As judge Gwen Stefani describes, his “soft, tender, beautiful” voice had her thinking that he was a woman before she turned her chair.
“This guy is unique sounding. And it was so soothing and beautiful. I was like, ‘I’m going to press my button.’ And so, you’re on my team, no matter what,” Stefani adds, explaining why she used the block button against Reba McEntire.
The 34-year-old Fil-Am talent already has a number of EPs and singles that reflect how he’s tried to develop his sound from island reggae into what he calls Reggae & Blues.

His latest tracks include “Brimstone,” “Loud Mouth Gibberish,” and “Fearless.” Jason Arcilla’s also part of a band called Jason Arcilla & The Rhythm Sons.
On a guest appearance on Mana’o Radio in Sept. 2020, Jason Arcilla talked about pursuing music in Los Angeles while working for FedEx before deciding to return to Maui to make music full-time.
That decision seems to have paid off and we’re excited to see what this chapter with “The Voice” has in store for him.
