Fil-Am Arielle Jacobs, 'Here Lies Love' cast to sing J. Oconer Navarro's works

The heart of New York City’s theater district, 54 Below, will host an evening of music on Oct. 9 as Filipino-American Arielle Jacobs, known for her remarkable Broadway performances, and the all-Filipino cast of the musical “Here Lies Love” will come together to perform and celebrate the works of J. Oconer Navarro.

Navarro is a highly acclaimed NYC-based Filipino artist who has earned awards for his works as a writer, music director, pianist, and educator.

He currently serves as the music director for the Broadway production of “Here Lies Love,” a groundbreaking musical co-created by David Byrne and Fatboy Slim. The show revolves around the rise and fall of the Marcoses who ruled the Philippines in the mid-20th century.

With this, the recipient of the American Theater Wing Jonathan Larson Grant is said to be the second Filipino to hold the music director title in Broadway history.

The night will also include an exclusive glimpse of tracks from Navarro’s Fil-Am musical, “Death of the Pastores,” which is presently in collaboration with Laura Dadap. This musical draws inspiration from the renowned Filipino folk guitarist Michael Dadap.

Aside from Jacobs, the concert will also feature performances from Julia Abueva, Reanne Acasio, Aaron J. Albano, Renée Albulario, Aaron Alcaraz, Carol Angeli, Nathan Angelo, Kristina Doucette, Roy Flores, Jasmine Forsberg, Sarah Kay, Jeigh Madjus, Geena Quintos, Shea Renne Hughes, Angelo Soriano, Danielle Troiano, and Moses Villarama.

The show will be directed by Nathaniel Claridad with arrangements by Brandon Ilaw and Justin Ramos.
