How Becoming Filipino became a beloved personality
Jennermann’s journey to Filipino citizenship is remarkable. He first arrived in the Philippines in 2013 as a traveler before eventually relocating to the country. Over 10 years, he explored around 70 provinces, documenting his experiences on his YouTube channel Becoming Filipino, which currently has over a million subscribers.
His channel not only showcased the Philippines’ beauty but also became a platform for conservation and sustainable tourism. Jennermann’s deep appreciation for local culture and dedication to making a positive impact resonated worldwide.
During his oath-taking ceremony, Jennermann proudly wore a bamboo barong designed by Filipino designer Francis Libiran. The garment, developed by the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Textile Research Institute, represents the fusion of traditional Filipino craftsmanship with innovative and sustainable materials.
“Becoming a Filipino citizen, knowing I am wearing something not just local, but the first of its kind… incredible,” he wrote on Instagram. “The lyocell-bamboo pants, and silk-bamboo barong fabrics were so comfortable to wear. The color, the feel… I can’t believe this was bamboo!!”
