In a heartwarming turn of events, Kyle Jennermann, known to the world as “Kulas” and famous for his YouTube channel “Becoming Filipino,” has officially become a Filipino citizen.

After years of sharing the beauty and warmth of Filipino culture through his vlogs, Kulas took the Oath of Allegiance to the Republic of the Philippines on Sept. 13 at the House of Representatives. The occasion was made even more special as it was attended by Biñan City Representative Len Alonte, who played a crucial role in the approval of House Bill 7185 earlier this year.

In his Facebook post, Jennermann wrote, “Today marks the beginning of the most important part of my life. I am ready for this. I am filled with belief, inspiration, gratefulness, and love.” He also thanked Congresswoman Alonte for administering his oath and the Filipino families who welcomed him and made a significant impact on his life.

During his oath-taking ceremony, Jennermann proudly wore a bamboo barong designed by Filipino designer Francis Libiran. The garment, developed by the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Textile Research Institute, represents the fusion of traditional Filipino craftsmanship with innovative and sustainable materials.

“Becoming a Filipino citizen, knowing I am wearing something not just local, but the first of its kind… incredible,” he wrote on Instagram. “The lyocell-bamboo pants, and silk-bamboo barong fabrics were so comfortable to wear. The color, the feel… I can’t believe this was bamboo!!”
