A mermaid-like Lorde resurfaces on Instagram: Are we getting new music?
Lorde has a pretty peculiar relationship with Instagram.
Besides being the mastermind of a reliable onion ring criticism page, you wouldn’t really catch the Kiwi singer-songwriter uploading an MWF stream of Instagram Stories or a dump of life updates on her feed. Well, actually, the latter is possible if we’re talking about it being her first post after over two years.
In Lorde’s rare Instagram update on Aug. 10, the 26-year-old artist shows us a photo gallery of her bikini-clad self in a multi-colored swimming pool, almost mermaid-like.
“After the show we went swimming,” she captions, referring to her ongoing tour in Norway.

“These times are beautiful and they freak me out and there’s so much to tell you. No this is not the start of anything out there, just want [you] to know there’s a light on inside me… show it to you soon.”
The update caused a stir among her followers, who pointed out that the pictures’ visuals look reminiscent of “Melodrama,” her second studio album that garnered critical acclaim and housed crowd favorites like “Green Light,” “Liability,” and “Supercut.”
People have also nitpicked her caption’s last line, which possibly teases new music coming despite what seems to be a little disclaimer included. After all, her last (and remaining) Instagram post was about third album “Solar Power.”
Fans might be in luck since Lorde has clearly expressed her desire to come up with her fourth album. In February, she revealed that she’s been trying to move as fast as she can in her process, People reports.

“I do a lot of research, I write a lot down. Sort of a big chunk of work before I actually start writing music,” she said. “It’s been super exciting and I feel excited about what’s coming.”
She also said, “This one, I really am trying to. I don’t want to wait, you know, so take from that what you will.”
During a 2021 press con ahead of her “Solar Power” drop, Lorde divulged that albums take her “about two years” to write, record, and produce, Scout reports. “I do it almost all by myself with one other person. It’s a really intensive process.”
“The truth is my albums just take me a long time because I like to have really undergone a personal transformation between albums so I have something really different to say. And that takes a while, obviously.”
