Filipino-American anti-racist and anti-bias educator, spoken word poet, motivational speaker, researcher, and racial equity strategist Tony DelaRosa joins the long list of Filipino Americans who have successfully made a mark in their respective fields.

DelaRosa secured a spot on Madison365’s list of Wisconsin’s 40 most influential Asian American leaders. Madison365, a nonprofit online news publication, acknowledges outstanding Wisconsin leaders from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, according to its publisher, co-founder, and CEO Henry Sanders Jr.

Who is Tony DelaRosa?

DelaRosa is a Wisconsin-based trailblazer in education. His journey started with a BA in Asian studies from the University of Cincinnati before pursuing a master in education, specializing in arts education and nonprofit management at Harvard University.

Armed with an unyielding spirit and knowledge, he embarked on his journey to empower fellow educators and students. He is currently pursuing a PhD in educational leadership and policy analysis at University of Wisconsin Madison as an education graduate research scholar.

But on top of these educational pursuits and accolades, DelaRosa is no stranger to recognition. In 2021, he received the Inspire Award from the National Association of Asian American Professionals, a recognition for Asians who have conquered obstacles and contributed to the success of North America.

Just this year, the Asian American Foundation also honored him with the Community Trailblazer Award, where he was featured on Hulu’s Heritage Heroes special.

He is also the co-founder of New York City’s AATEND, the first Asian American teacher support initiative, which is under the NYC Men Teach, NYC DOE, and Office of the Mayor.

In addition, DelaRosa’s drive to help improve Asian American education gave birth to his book “Teaching the Invisible Race,” which is a collaboration of ideas with his sister. This book aims to equip educators with fresh eyes to understand and combat anti-Asian hate, violence, and racism.

Although his list of achievements is a lot to process, this Fil-Am leader remains grounded and family-oriented. Just recently, he was able to fulfill his dream of taking his parents to Europe.
