What we know so far about Janella Salvador and Win Metawin’s upcoming film
Both “Darna” and “2gether: The Series” fans are in for a treat. A new cross-cultural tale is on the way, and Filipino actress Janella Salvador and Thai actor Win Metawin are headlining it.
On July 18, 28 Squared Studios announced the unexpected (and rumored) team-up on Instagram. In the video—which gives us a sneak peek into the two actors’ chemistry—Win and Janella break the news about their upcoming film collaboration, “Under The Parallel Skies.”
They cap off their heartfelt message with a giggly “See you soon” in both Filipino and Thai. “We are very, very excited to share this with you very soon,” Salvador said.
Star Magic, which is Salvador’s talent management, also posted the same clip with some information about what to expect from the project for now.
While further details remain a mystery, we can draw some theories based on what we know so far.

28 Squared Studios, which operates in Manila and Hong Kong, aims to highlight diverse stories in Asia. The filming location of “Under The Parallel Skies” is also in Hong Kong. In their latest Instagram posts, we can get a first glance at the movie with what looks like scene stills.
This film is also co-produced with Two Infinity Entertainment.
Sigrid Andrea Bernardo is sitting in the director’s chair
The Filipino filmmaker is known to have directed the thriller “UnTrue” and the romantic drama “Mr. & Mrs. Cruz.” She’s the mastermind behind the notorious tearjerker “Kita Kita” in 2018, which was also shot overseas (Hokkaido, Japan). Does this signify an emotionally heavy story coming our way?
A story about multiple or intersecting timelines?
Taking from what Star Magic shared, the film will tackle themes of “love, heartbreak, and healing” as it spotlights “a man struggling from a painful past.” He eventually finds out that a certain woman in his present life has a connection with his past.
Add up the initial vibe we get from the title (keyword is parallel). Could this story play around the concept of chaotic timelines? Well, it’s a start-off point of a theory for now, and we’d have to wait and see for ourselves.
Past pop culture collaborations between the Philippines and Thailand include the rom-com “Suddenly It’s Magic” (2012), led by Filipino actress Erich Gonzales and Thai actor Mario Maurer, and the song “Falling Into You,” a collaboration between Filipino dancer-actor-singer Maja Salvador and Thai pop singer ToR Saksit.
