‘Voltes V: Legacy’ is invading San Diego Comic-Con 2023
On top of all its achievements, the best (metaphorical) badge the gigantic robot “Voltes V” wears is the one that says cultural phenomenon.
After taking over your family’s core memories of the ’70s during the Japanese anime series’ first broadcast in the Philippines, it recently made its comeback through “Voltes V: Legacy,” a live-action adaptation this 2023.
And if humming the theme song or streaming weekly recaps online isn’t enough, the show will take over another space: The San Diego Comic-Con.
During the annual Toycon PH in Pasay City on July 8, series director Mark V. Reyes broke the news about the show’s partnership with entertainment publishing powerhouse Dogu, ushering in “Voltes V: Legacy’s” convention debut.
‘Voltes V: Legacy’ is the Philippines’ pride
In front of the Toycon audience, Reyes revealed, “Wala pa pong Asian production ang nakakatapak sa San Diego Comic-Con in South California (No Asian production has reached the San Diego Comic-Con in South California yet), but ‘Voltes V’ [from] a Filipino network—GMA Network—was invited.”

“So coming July 19, several members of the ‘Voltes V’ will be representing the Philippines. Not just GMA Network but the Philippines in San Diego Comic-Con,” he added. He also thanked everyone’s support and expressed disbelief at how “Voltes V: Legacy,” which was initially targeted at the Filipino audience, would get so much support from the global community.

If you’re coming, you can catch the panel from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Grand 10 at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina in San Diego, California.
“Get ready for a groundbreaking moment as Dogu Publishing proudly presents the convergence of GMA Network’s visionary creativity, Toei Animation’s renowned Japanese collaboration, and the instrumental role of Telesuccess Productions,” the page also reads.
“Join the stars, executive producers, and industry experts in an exhilarating panel that guarantees thrilling behind-the-scenes insights, unforgettable moments, and a joyous celebration of this modern retelling. Plus, exclusive giveaways just for attendees.”
