Claire Oliveros, a Filipino American educator from Sacramento, California, will be Riverside City College’s 13th president. Her hiring was confirmed on June 20 by Wolde-Ab Isaac, chancellor of Riverside Community College District.

Oliveros, who was a first-generation college student, grew up in the Pacific Northwest. She will start Monday, July 10, and earn an annual salary of $275,919, the release said.

Oliveros is the vice president of Institutional Equity & Research and Planning at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communication from Western Oregon University; Master of Science in Educational Policy, Foundations and Administrative Studies from Portland State University; and a doctorate in Education from Oregon State University.

“Throughout my 28 years of professional experience in higher education, I have demonstrated a commitment to student access and success; teaching and learning; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and training and development in various leadership roles,” Oliveros said in the release.

The college’s previous president, Gregory Anderson, was removed by the district’s board in June 2022. Anderson later said he “chose to leave,” though district spokesperson Chris Clarke said he was “dismissed, without cause.”

After Anderson’s departure, Lynn Wright, vice president of academic affairs, became acting president. In July, Wright was replaced by Rajen Vudien, who was replaced in October by FeRita Carter, vice president of student services.
