Fil-Ams join LA Pride March
The busy streets of Hollywood Boulevard are alive again as the yearly LA Pride Parade marked the peak of the city’s Pride Month celebrations.
Amid the colorful feast, the Pilipino American Los Angeles Democrats (PALAD) led the Fil-Am community. The organization led the celebration for the second consecutive year, advocating for acceptance and inclusivity.
The LA Pride Parade is a powerful tool for diverse cultures to collaborate. They also celebrated queer happiness and highlighted the ongoing battles for LGBTQ+ recognition and rights.
A PALAD representative, Jessica Caloza, stated their heartfelt goal. She said, “We want to make sure that every single person feels welcome no matter what. It’s about being loud and proud, supporting our LGBTQ+ community members.”

Highlighting Ongoing Struggles and Resilience
Amid the festive environment of the LA Pride Parade, it is vital to acknowledge the hurdles that the LGBTQ+ community still faces. In the past weeks, tensions emerged in a local Southern California school board.
They are unhappy about these Pride Month festivities and the inclusion of LGBTQ+ rights in school curriculums. These continuous struggles emphasize the need for constant support and activism.
A dedicated participant in LA Pride Parade for more than two decades, Michael Colorg candidly addressed that amidst the progress, challenges still exist. He said, “It’s always a battle.”
Colorg added, “Whether it’s related to housing, job security, marriage equality, or trans rights, obstacles continue to emerge. It’s akin to turning the pages of an ongoing live book, with each chapter presenting new challenges, much like a telenovela. But we must confront them head-on, one way or another.”
The interweaving stories of LGTQ+ and Filipino history engulf an ongoing battle for acceptance, recognition, and equality. The LA Pride parade serves as a vital platform to strengthen the voices of both communities.
