Fil-Am ex-mayor of West Sacramento running for State Senate
A Filipino American former longtime mayor of West Sacramento announced his candidacy for California State Senate seat in 2024.
Christopher Cabaldon announced in a release his bid for State Senate District 3, was redrawn to includes part of Solano, Yolo, Napa, Contra Costa, Sonoma and Sacramento counties.
He was the first openly gay Filipino in the country to be elected mayor and was also the longest-serving LGBT mayor.
Cabaldon was West Sacramento mayor from 1998-2020 until he lost to Martha Guerrero, the current mayor.
Former President Barack Obama appointed Cabaldon to the Executive Committee of the National Advisory Board for America’s College Promise, which was then chaired by Jill Biden.
Cabaldon currently works with the Institute for the Future, which tries to ensure society has the tools, methods, and capabilities to cope with socio-economic challenges before they become critical issues.
