Hawaii’s Filcom Center to hold 31st Fiesta and Flores de Mayo
The “largest celebration of its kind in Hawaii” featuring food, entertainment and recreational activities, the 31st Annual Filipino Fiesta and 11th Annual Flores de Mayo will be hosted by the Filipino Community Center (FilCom) Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the Center from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available.
The annual Filipino Fiesta and Flores de Mayo highlights traditional Philippine songs and dances, food, games and cultural activities through different Philippine languages and artifacts.
“Itan Ok Tayo Ti Masakbayan!” is this year’s theme, which translates to “Looking Ahead With Pride!” The three main islands of the Philippines, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will be featured as cultural villages, highlighting the rich diversity of Filipino Americans in Hawaii.
The Filipino Curriculum Project will be educating children about Filipino culture through traditional games, dances, storytelling, and much more from their curriculum.
The Filipino Fiesta and Flores de Mayo is one of the three commemorative events of FilCom’s annual traditional celebrations. It will be followed by the Bayanihan Gala (July), and the traditional Filipino Pasko sa FilCom (December). Details are available at https://filcom.org/2023-filipino
