The upcoming movie may center around the life of Pauline Kael, a renowned movie critic, essayist, and novelist known for her contentious relationships with editors and filmmakers.

In the late 1970s, Kael shortly worked as a consultant for Paramount. The 70s’ is a period that seems to correspond with the film’s setting.

The filmmaker behind the project is said to greatly admire Kael. It further bolsters the likelihood of her being the film’s subject.

While the project has yet to find a studio, sources suggest that Sony, with whom the director has a close relationship, is a strong contender.

Sony previously distributed the director’s 2019 film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which won two Oscars and earned over $377 million worldwide.

Despite his plans to retire from filmmaking, he has shown an inclination toward exploring other creative avenues. During interviews, he has expressed interest in directing limited series or plays.

Additionally, he recently ventured into writing and published his debut novel in 2021, a novelization of his epic film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
