Ethan Hawke Jokes About the Time He Took Over Son’s Seat to Chat with Rihanna

/ 09:13 AM February 15, 2023

Rihanna made a greatly anticipated return to the stage at the Super Bowl 2023 after it was confirmed that she would headline the halftime show.

The superstar recently announced her pregnancy. She delivered a glitzy performance worth the wait after five long years while proudly showing off her baby bump.

On Sunday, she mounted the stage in Glendale, Arizona. Rihanna was fully dressed in a flowing bright red outfit. The pop superstar was the first pregnant woman to perform in the halftime show.

At the start of her performance, she teased the reveal as she rubbed her belly and left open the zipper of her outfit, a jumpsuit layered over a fighting bodysuit, to show her belly.

Ethan Hawke is a great admirer of the iconic artist, and he showed this on Monday when he gushed over Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance and looked back on a humorous moment with his son.

The actor, famous for his various roles in movies like The Purge, Valerian and the city of a thousand planets, and the recent murder mystery blockbuster, Glass Onion, shared throwback pictures of him and his now 21-year-old son Levon Roan Thurman-Hawke sitting courtside at an NBA game.

The trio of photos dates back to 2015, and the first photo shows Hawke’s son. Levon is seated between Rihanna, 34, and Hawke himself. In the next slide, Hawke appears to have switched seats next to the “Diamond” singer, with his son on the other end.

The reaction of Ethan Hawke’s son

Levon appears flustered as he uses his palms to hide his face. The slide of images ends with a photo of Rihanna talking to the actor as young Levon watches inquisitively.

Referring to his son’s reaction, Hawke captioned the moment. “After Rihanna’s brilliant halftime performance, I hope my son will find it in his heart to forgive his dad for taking his moment.”

The comment section was amok with fellow celebrities and friends. They shared their thoughts, some pointing out his posture while he talked to the superstar.

Gwyneth Paltrow commented, “Could you sit up straight, for god’s sake? You’re sitting next to Rihanna!” Milano Alyssa continued, “Not sure I would have gone with this posture while sitting next to a goddess.”

Another user jokingly added, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Rihanna wasn’t shy to show off her baby bump, and a source had already told People that she was “super excited to confirm” the news.

The source added, “Rihanna has so many things she is grateful for. She is ecstatic about how her show went. Also, she felt great about performing again. She’s super excited to confirm her pregnancy.”

She also said the musician, who is pregnant with a second child for rapper ASAP Rocky (real name Rakim Athelaston Mayers), “wants several kids and is happy that her son will have a sibling come summer.”

“She loves parenting with Rakim. They are great together,” added the insider.
