Google’s Chatbot Bard Set to Challenge OpenAI’s ChatGPT Dominance
Google has announced the launch of an AI-powered chatbot named Bard. It is being developed as a rival to ChatGPT, the most well-known AI chatbot on the market.
The company stated that a group of users would test Bard before its public availability in the upcoming weeks.
Bard is based on Google’s existing large language model, LaMDA, which is considered highly advanced and human-like in its responses.

One engineer working on the project has even gone as far as to claim that LaMDA is “sentient,” according to BBC. However, proof had debunked this claim.
OpenAI designed the new AI to answer questions and provide information, using the internet as an extensive knowledge database.
Writing about it in his blog (via Verge), Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated about Bard.
“Bard can be an outlet for creativity, and a launchpad for curiosity, helping you to explain discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn more about the best strikers in football right now, and then get drills to build your skills.”

The launch of Bard is a result of the growing popularity of ChatGPT. San Francisco-based OpenAI created it and had over 30 million users. In addition, the chatbot has around 5 million visits per day.
According to a New York Times report, tech giant Microsoft backs up OpenAI, which is reportedly integrating ChatGPT into its search engine, Bing.
One of the critical differences between Bard and ChatGPT is Bard’s ability to provide answers to questions about current events. Bard also draws information from the web, which ChatGPT needs help to do effectively.
Pichai revealed that Bard “draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses.” The statement implies that it would beat ChatGPT in this regard.
Google Bard Trials
Google is already highlighting its implementation of AI into its various offerings, including its search engine. Over recent years, Google has leveraged AI to present summarized search results.
The company opts for it rather than having users dig deeper by clicking and navigating different sites.
Google is feeling pressure from the popularity of ChatGPT and sees it as a threat to its business. People can now directly ask the chatbot questions instead of going through search results pages.
In response, according to Yahoo, the company declared an internal “code red” and invested more than $300 million into Anthropic, an AI startup founded by former OpenAI executives.
