Ron Menor, longtime Hawaii politician and Fil-Am leader dies at 67
Ron Menor, a longtime Filipino American politician in Hawaii, died Monday, Jan. 16 at age 67, following an “unexpected medical emergency,” according to Gov. Josh Green.
Menor served in the Honolulu City Council. He also was a state representative and a state senator, but he began his lengthy public service career as a law clerk for the Hawaii Supreme Court.
He said his decision to be a lawyer and pursue public service was influenced by his father, the late Hawaii Supreme Court Justice Benjamin Menor. His mother was Lilian Menor.
Ron Menor is survived by his wife, Patricia, and sons Benjamin, Andrew and Anthony.
Many of his colleagues expressed shock over the news and remembered his tireless work for the community, according to Hawaii News Now.
Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi called Menor, the former chair of the Council, as a “valiant public servant.”
Speaker of the House Scott Saiki added, “He did serve with us in the House previously. He was a gentlemen, he was intelligent. We’re going to miss him.”
