J.Cole releases new song inspired by a beat he found on YouTube
J. Cole surprises his fans with a song release before this weekend. He found the song’s beat by searching “J.Cole type beat” on YouTube.
After a year of releasing J. Cole’s sixth studio album comes this new song. Dreamville/Roc Nation/Interscope released his last album, “The Off-Season,” in 2021. This album hit the no.1 place on the Billboard 200 album charts.
Moreover, some of his other albums, including Cole World: The Sideline Story (2011), Born Sinner (2013), 2014 Forest Hills Drive (2014), 4 Your Eyez Only (2016), and KOD (2018), also topped the Billboard charts.
On Wednesday night, Producer Bvtman unveiled J.Cole’s new song “Procrastination (Broke).” Rapper J. Cole sent a text message to the producer, noting that he didn’t mean to release the music yet. But the rapper released it as a “thank you” to BVtman. He also dedicates it to “every producer out there cooking up and sharing their work with the world.”

According to Billboard, The song was released on Bvtman’s YouTube page. “Procrastination” also has an album art that explains its origin. According to Cole’s text message, the art explains that he found the song beat by searching himself on YouTube. His text reads, “On a day when I couldn’t find much motivation, I was looking for anything to inspire me.”
Cole’s text continued, “On a day when I couldn’t find much motivation, I was looking for anything to inspire me. Out of curiosity, I typed in ‘J. Cole type beat’ into YouTube. Yours was the first I saw. I pressed play, focused, and wrote this.”
Moreover, Cole concluded, “This is some s— that would normally stay in the vault, but I don’t want to hold onto the music like that no more. This is for you and whoever else needs to hear it. God bless, bro, and keep doing what you do!”
In true J. Cole nature, the subtext becomes the actual lyrics on the track. He finds himself rapping about, trying to appear as hungry as he was on new music while pushing the Lambo truck. This is the same thing he did when he still had to worry about food.
While it is an obvious J. Cole reflection, he noted that it is a one-off type of song. It’s something like a song recording that he’d rather hide in a vault forever. Cole said, “I don’t even know if somebody gon hear this/got so many songs that get lost in the endless folders of the hard drive/I wish I was more fearless.” However, as the song title hinted, he also mentioned “finishing this album.”
