Taylor Swift’s cat is worth $97 million

/ 09:28 AM January 06, 2023

While almost everyone is striving to survive the effects of inflation and layoffs, Taylor Swift’s cat is sitting pretty. With a net worth of $97 million, the pop singer’s feline friend, Olivia Benson, is the world’s third richest pet.

In an interview with Time in 2019, the pop star said that her feline pets inspired her to accept a role in “Cats.” She addresses her pets as her major influence. Swift said, “I have cats. I’m obsessed with them. I love my cats so much that when a role came up in a movie called Cats, I just thought, like, I gotta do this. Like, this is my calling to do this—for the ladies.”

Olivia Benson is a Scottish Fold. Swift named her after Mariska Hargitay’s character in “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” Olivia has certainly clawed her way to the top.

From making humorous cameos in several of Swift’s music videos, Benson appeared in high-profile commercials for Diet Coke, AT&T, and DirectTV alongside one of the pop stars. Olivia was also featured in Swift’s music video of Blank Space and Me!

Fans were mesmerized as they watched Olivia Benson rise from cuteness overload on Instagram to a highly sought-after campaign animal. It seems that behind every star, there is an adorable sidekick, or in this case, a very famous feline.

The website All About Cats ranked Olivia as the top three richest pets considering her net worth. According to the site, Instagram analytics defines the rankings by estimating “how much each of these pets could make per Instagram.” Although the feline star doesn’t have an Instagram account, Taylor Swift has posted photos of herself on her social media accounts.

In 2020, Swift posted a picture of her pet lounging on the couch with an expression that was simply paw-some. Her caption said, “Captain Olivia Benson off duty like—.” This post garnered 2 million views.

The All About Cats website described Olivia’s ranking. “At the number three spot is Olivia Benson, the best friend, and companion of artist Taylor Swift, who asks the question: is Instagram celebrity really the most profitable profession for your pet?”

The site continued, “With a whopping $97 million net worth, Olivia has found success outside of the world of Instagram influencing. The Scottish Fold earned her fortune starring alongside her owner in several music videos, has crafted her own merchandise line, and has had cameos in many big-budget ads…”

Aside from Olivia, Swift still has two other cats, Benjamin Button and Meredith Grey. Although these cats didn’t make it to The Ultimate Pet Rich List, they appeared in Swift’s 1989 World Tour in 2015. The “Midnight” album star’s two beloved cats came out during an intermission video.

Moreover, two of Olivia’s animal peers have led the top two places on the list. Gunther IV is a German Shepherd reported to be worth $500 million, and rising star Nala Cat with a net worth of $100 million. Meanwhile, the Scottish Fold is ahead of Oprah Winfrey’s dogs Sunny, Sadie, Layla, and Luke. They are worth less at $30 million. While Pontiac, the late actress Betty White’s dog, is worth $5 million.
