Fil-Canadian joins creators of new sitcom
A Filipino Canadian is among the core writers on an upcoming sitcom “Maria and the Mennos,” about a Filipino woman who moves in with her Mennonite in-laws. (Amish and Mennonite faiths are very similar in religious beliefs, but Mennonites do not shun modern appliances and machines.)
Alec Carlos of Steinbach, Manitoba was recruited into the team of creators to bring the “Filipino voice.” The experienced writer grew up in the Philippines and came to Canada in his youth. “I know a lot of Mennonite, Filipino couples as well!” he told Steinbachonline.com.
Carlos is also an actor has a number of projects being released in 2023: a movie called “Elevator Game”; a show called “Safehaven”; an episode in “Spencer Sisters.” “Maria and the Mennos” is the first time he’s writing sitcom scripts.
“Maria and the Mennos” will start filming soon.
